Go ahead and fall.

Flail even. And dare I say - fail! Of course no one wants to fall or flail and certainly not fail. Especially not at something that means something to you.

If you’re not constantly falling, sometimes embarrassingly flailing, and at least occasionally failing - you’re missing out! Seriously, I mean it. If you don’t have to face the F’s, you are not growing (as much as you could) and you are not as good as you could be. It may be comfortable in the moment to stay within your comfort zone, but hindsight will reveal that in doing so you didn’t tap into your next level - no matter how good you are.

I’d argue that the person who gets the most out of sports and training and competing is the one who never wins - and she still loves her sport, still shows up every day with effort, and she consistently gets better at something. And guess what? This is almost every person who participates in sports. The realty is that most people never win and they keep coming back for more. There’s something profound to learn from those who never win - winning is not everything - wanting to win is everything. So go out there everyday at practice and try to not fall, or flail, or fail, but try things hard enough that you will. FFF. Then do it again. And again.

Shifting the focus on failure can be profound. Give it a chance.

How do you create opportunities to FFF?

The moment of failure sucks but embrace it. Embrace it at all costs. It will profoundly change you.
